The Rumble in the Matrix

The undefeated heavyweight champion of 17 Stanley Grove, Croydon, takes on a formidable opponent in a match which is set to rock the world of boxing. After five years of hype, the fight will finally take place on 19th June 2015 at The London Irish Centre.

A defeat for Matrix Lawless would be devastating, and change history for the defensive genius of the era.

Some have rumoured that this contest will scale the thrilling heights of the historic bout between Andy Stevensen and Dougie Fresh fought here back in 2014.  It is difficult to disagree with the overwhelming standpoint of most boxers, and insiders, that Matrix is a clear favourite.

Undefeated in 47 fights, schooled in the mystique of hit-and-not-be-hit, he has an almost perfect triangular physique for boxing, with tiny waist, broad shoulders, long arms and forearms, all employed from side on to form a defensive shield to protect his chin and head. From that position, and with sublime footwork, Matrix has never been unlocked. He attacks with single shots, and he counters.

Matrix has size, reach, and, when they step into the ring, perhaps a 10lb advantage.  Matrix works opponents out, watches their movement, sways and counters. Given his opponent's southpaw stance, leading with his right hand, Matrix's straight right lead, a rapier punch, could be a potent force. Matrix's physique seems more robust for this fight. A knockout could be in his strategy.

The way the fight plays out will depend to a large extent on how his opponent has set their plan of attack. Mike Bison, his opponent's trainer, said: “I think it’s a tough fight for both guys. I don’t think either fighter is scared, though. They chose this sport. I just feel my man might not be Matrix's first choice.”

Huge fights here have a bad habit of courting controversy, and if it goes to points in a close fight, a draw or a debatable split decision would not be of great surprise.
